IMMUNOTHERAPY
General Concepts
Immunotherapy means literally therapy (treatment) for the immunological system. This is the name that is used to refer to the treatment by which allergy vaccines are administered for the treatment of allergic conditions usually known as nasal allergies.
Von Pirquet (in the early 1900’s) coined the word ALLERGY from two Greek words “ALLOS” and “ERGOS”, meaning different (allos) and mechanism (ergos) as it was observed that in animal experiments some animals had an untoward effect. This was because some animals produced antibodies against foreign proteins (meaning from different species) being injected into them.
